Death of a Distinguished Mason. Captain Levi L. Stevenson, widely known in this and other States as one of the fathers in Masonry, died a few days ago at the residence of his son-in-law, Colonel M.G. Harman, near Staunton. He was born in Liberty, Frederick County, Maryland, November 11, 1787, and was a Captain in the War of 1812. His Masonic life was one of unusual distinction having been for twenty years Master of the Lodge in which he was initiated, Grand Master of the State of Virginia, Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter, Grand Lecturer of both Grand Lodge and Chapter for seventeen years, Grand Lecturer of North Carolina and Eminent Commander of the Commandery at Norfolk. Captain Stevenson was Postmaster at Staunton, Virginia before the War. He married a Miss Dunlap of Augusta County in 1813. His daughters are Mrs. Getty of New York, wife of Brigadier General Getty, U.S.A.; Mrs. Harman, wife of M.G. Harman, Mrs. Margaret Kenney and Mrs. Porterfield Kenney. His sons are Brigadier General J.W. Stevenson, U.S.A. and William R. Stevenson Esq. of Fauquier. He leaves some thirty grandchildren.
