Subject: Searching for the Family of a Korean War Veteran, Johnny Eugene Dunlap

I am searching for the family of one of your native sons who was lost in the Korean War. At this time, the government had no family contact.
When the soldier entered the service, he gave San Luis Obispo County as his home of record.
Soldier: Johnny Eugene Dunlap
Born: 1932
Date of loss: Sept. 6 , 1950, MIA
Unit: G Company 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division

Jerry:

Just happened on to your web site and thought I would forward the following inquiry to you. I served thirty plus years reserve and active duty and some of my military friends here in California sent this to me in hopes of finding this family. I also contacted retired Judge Logan, Harrison, ARK, who has been researching our clan of Dunlaps since he was 15--but he did not know any connection. The Mountain Meadow Massacre in Utah in 1857 brings alot of our family together. That wagon train originated at Harrison, ARK.

Anyway, thought you would be interested in this veteran that they are looking for family of.

Blessings

Lee Dunlap

See the note below and please pass on to anyone that might have known the family.

Paul --

The following letter was in the Sunday, 14 Jun 09, San Luis Obispo Tribune.  Would you be so kind as to forward it to the many folks on your mailing list?  There is always a chance that someone may know of a family member or may have known Johnny Dunlap.

I note that the writer, Harold Davis, served with the 40th Division in Korea, and some on your mailing list may want to get in contact with him.

Many thanks --

Mike

A veteran’s family

I am searching for the family of one of your native sons who was lost in the Korean War. At this time, the government had no family contact.

When the Korean War ended more than 50 years ago, the enemy never returned or accounted for more than 8,000 of our servicemen. Since that time, DNA analysis has been perfected, and they are recovering remains in North Korea. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers,=2 0but there are 175 families from California that have not been located, including one from San Luis Obispo County.
When the remains are recovered and identified, they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just a 78-year-old combat veteran of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause, and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project, you may go to www.jpac.pacom.mil.
I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.
